Coal-Fired Power-Station Co₂ Generator Fire-Suppression Installation – No. 2
Risk Value: log in to view
A monumental carbon-dioxide fire-suppression installation dating from the 1950s–60s and originally used to protect a coal-fired power station generator. Its 14 high-capacity CO₂ cylinders were designed to discharge the extinguishing gas simultaneously into a common pipe system. A large integrated weighing mechanism monitored the cylinders’ charge and therefore indicated any loss of gas. The protective cylinder caps are stored inside the mesh-enclosed chamber of the drop-weight mechanism. Integrated forklift pockets allow the complete assembly to be handled together with its base structure. With its dense array of pipes, cylinders, valves and mechanical details, it is a highly distinctive hero prop that can also represent unidentified technology in retrofuturistic, atomic-punk, science-fiction or dystopian settings.
